My mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer just before Christmas, 2011. A few months later, she was gone. This story came out of my hatred of the disease that took her and my desire to see it manifested in front of me so that I could do to it exactly what it deserves. Looking back on it, it’s sort of a mix of SF, horror, Weird, pulp, medieval romance, and maybe something else, though I’m not sure what. In any case, I was ecstatic when editor Trevor Denyer accepted the story for the first issue of the re-launched Midnight Street Magazine.
